History of television documentaries
Television documentaries have been popular since the advent
of television as a way of informing and collating data as well as a good basis
of propaganda it became more commonplace in the latter part of the 20th
century and became a very popular way to convey information to the masses with programmes
such as Watergate which detailed the Watergate scandal and then nature
documentaries like the blue planet they are normally popular as they enable
education, the blue planet being seen by over 12 million people which shows how
popular they are. People also tend to watch documentaries as a way of light
entertainment also for the fact of the BBC’s goals is to inform to educate and
to entertain. For the BBC this is shown by the amount of people who watch the
documentaries with tv programmes with documentaries such as educating Yorkshire
it was the most watched programme on channel 4 for the entirety of the first
season
